I'm thinking perhaps we should revisit the groups/committees discussion and try to come a consensus about the structure of the conference's organizing body. Jenny and Steven both had a couple of comments about groups on a post below.

I think we should also discuss confirming a location for the conference. I know Daniel Schugurensky from OISE was asking Adam whether we had decided on holding the conference at OISE and if so if we had dates in mind.

I think it's pretty imperative to talk about OUTREACH as well. The last meeting was not as diverse as it could have and should have been, and we need to work to change that a-sap.

Some ideas I would like to put out there, as I am out of the country for the next couple of months.
It has been mentioned that there is a G8 summit in 2010, and therefore a desire to see the conference link into direct action about summit issues. For this to be a part of the conference (and not swamp the conference) I think some discussion on catagorising the focus of presentations by groups/individuals attending the conference is needed. I mentioned on a previous blog, the following broad catagories:
*Activism and Agiprop
*Peace building & Conflict Resolution
*Community development/popular education.
The Formaat site also has some interesting catagories:
http://www.formaat.org/inenglish/activities%20-%20theatre-for-development.php

* Could I also suggest the use of Open Space Technology to facilitate discussion. I went to an event called "Devoted and Disgruntled 4" in London, and found the process very powerful.
see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Space_Technology

* I understand that people want the event to be more "community focussed". Does that mean bringing in more field workers and members of the general public, or going to visit groups around Toronto working with communities?

My preference for involvement
I would be interested in working towards fostering connections with groups from South Africa and the UK. I think it would be nice if regional practitioners could create joint presentations to show their projects. (work led, over theory led)

I won't be at the meeting tomorrow as I am out of the country until March. I imagine much of the discussion regarding committe structure etc. will happen at tomorrow's meeting. Without knowing the structure and various committees at this time, I thought I would just tell you what I am interested in being involved in.

I expressed my interest to Simone on working on the Symposium Mixed Company is planning, which would be possible pre and post conference activities.

I am also interested in participating in strategic planning regarding conference goals, theme, structure, reach etc. I realize some of this discussion may occur over the next month or two. I ask that where possible I am included in email loops so that I can give feedback, and hope that I could join into live discussion when I return in the beginning of March.

Thanks. Have a good meeting.
Jenny

Thanks

p.s. Please correct the minutes to say
Aiding Dramatic Change in Development.

Thanks again.

I added items 7 & 8 to the agenda. Number 7 is so that we discuss the great ideas Stephen has suggested, and 8 is because i feel like we have a few wrinkles to work out regarding how we communicate with each other.
I think it's early on but is a good time to discuss transparency of decisions, and methods for communicating that are as accessible and inclusive as possible.
